Role overview
The marketing and communications function at the British Council is spread across India with the central function in New Delhi and a geographical leads in Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai. It is an integrated unit working on a unified marketing and communications plan agreed with internal customers and working towards a shared goal. The team is responsible for designing and delivering marketing and communications services for all projects and products and also for strategic planning support to each SBU. It is a high performing internal support service to enhance the reach and impact of the British Council’s work in India.
To support and deliver high standards of marketing and communications programmes, events and campaigns in West India (Mumbai, Pune, Gujarat, Ahmadabad, Pune). The region is integral to the British Council sand uniquely positioned in Mumbai.
This includes:
- Providing support to the communication team in managing the marketing and communications portfolio for all activities in the West.
- Engaging with key stakeholders internally and externally for marketing and communications.
- Working with other colleagues in the marketing and communications teams and SBU leads to ensure delivery on targets agreed. This would include leadership of specific projects for marketing and communications being led from each region.
- Innovation and conceptualisation for marketing and communications plans as identified.
- Track, report, document and evaluate progress and overall strand performance against expected output.
Specific requirements: Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties
- In conjunction with Head Marketing and Communications and with their respective Area Directors, to be responsible for ensuring that the marketing and communications projects are managed across North India consistently and meet the project objectives
- To ensure that the brand/reputation is protected and effectively promoted in all our activities.
- Manage strategic relationships internally with programme and product managers internally and key stakeholders in media and marketing externally.
- To manage the media relations and management of key relationships in the region.
- To manage the delivery of marketing and promotion campaigns as identified.
- To ensure synergy and complementarities of our marketing and communications work with the Digital team.
- To develop and manage external vendors, agencies and supervise productions and design.
- To keep professionally updated on sector developments that affect delivery and marketing and communications methodologies.
- Demonstrate a high commitment to team working and creating a shared purpose.
Work management
- To work with staff in the programmes, Digital and SBUs constantly updating internal marketing and communications information on upcoming priorities.
Other important requirements:
- Qualification: Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
- Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations)
- Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a plus
- Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel). Proficiency in Adobe
- InDesign and Photoshop highly desired. Knowledge of HTML and graphic design a plus
- An effective communicator, both written and oral
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts
- Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
