We are celebrating International Youth Day (12 August) and World Photography Day (19 August) with a photography competition exclusively for college students. The competition's theme, 'my city through my lens', encourages college students to embark on a visual journey through their city. Participants are invited to capture compelling images that epitomise the essence and uniqueness of their city, showcasing its characteristic charm and spirit.

 Competition details: 

  • The contest is open to all the college students in Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata.
  • It is mandatory to register before you submit your entries. You can register for free through the link below.
  • Participants can submit a maximum of three entries with a note about the significance of each photo.
  • While submitting the photograph, participants must enclose the submission form with a copy of their college ID card. 

 Important dates: 

  • The deadline for submitting entries is 10 August 2024, 11:59 p.m. IST.
  • On 12 August (International Youth Day), all the photograph entries will be displayed at the British Council library.
  • Winners will be announced on 19 August, marking World Photography Day.

Terms and conditions

  • Prior registration is mandatory. Please click the link above to register for free.
  • The photograph must be in its original state and cannot be altered in any way, including but not limited to removing, adding, reversing, or distorting subjects within the frame or adding filters.
  • No obscenity will be accepted, and such submissions will be disqualified.
  • The contest is open for hard copy submissions only. No online submissions will be entertained.
  • The photograph submitted by the participant ought to be devoid of any copyrighted images.
  • Entries will be judged by the British Council. All decisions are final. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to stated contest rules.
  • Submissions will not be accepted once the deadline lapses.
  • The prize must be collected by the winner and is non-transferable.
  • The winner will be contacted via the email address provided during entry. If no response is received after three business days, a new winner will be selected and the previous winner will forfeit all rights to the prize.

Submission guidelines after registration: 

  • Only hard copy photographs will be accepted.
  • Photographs should be of any one of the following sizes: 5x7 inches, 8x8 inches or 10x12 inches.
  • The photograph can be in colour(s), monochromatic, or black-and-white.
  • The photograph must be accompanied by the submission form and consent form. Entries without the requisite forms will be disqualified. Envelop should be labelled as 'British Council Photography Competition'.
  • All entries must be sealed in an envelope and addressed to any of the following: 

       a) For New Delhi entries, please deliver to Anupama Saini, Library Manager, British High Commission,17 Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Delhi -110001

       b) For Chennai entries, please deliver to S. Valavan, Libraries Coordinator, British Council Division, 737 Anna Salai, Chennai - 600002 

       c) For Kolkata entries, please deliver to Praveena Ireland, Library Manager, British Council Division, 16 Camac Street, L&T Chambers, Kolkata - 700017
