Contemporary Expressions in Dance - An Open Day with Attakkalari in collaboration with Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, is in your town on 4 August 2024. Here is your chance to move with Attakkalari this summer at our open studio movement workshop for anyone with an interest in movement and dance, regardless of their previous experience.
Through various improvisational exercises and choreographic processes Contemporary Expressions in Movement : An Open Studio Movement Workshop with Attakkalari will introduce and make movement phrases and vocabularies accessible to participants. This series of ongoing workshop will employ movement phrases developed by Attakkalari’s contemporary movement practice which is informed by contemporary dance as well as draws its grammar and structure from embodied movement and somatic practices such as Yoga, Kalaripayattu, Bharatanatyam.
During this session participants will be gently reacquainted and will be encouraged to engage with a set of movement phrases. They will be led to observe and find ways to arrive in their bodies, and execute these movement phrases.
The workshop will briefly look at :
- Movement exploration: Participants will engage in a series of movement exercises and improvisational activities designed to help them connect with and observe their bodies and explore different ways of moving.
- Choreographic process: Participants will have the opportunity to work collaboratively to create short dance/movement pieces, using the techniques and principles they have learned during the workshop.
- Performance: The workshop will culminate in a sharing session where participants will have the opportunity to perform their choreographic creations for each other.
