The British Council library is commemorating World Photography Day (19th August) with a special event—a photography competition exclusively for its members. This competition centres around the theme "My city - Kolkata, Delhi and Chennai," encouraging members to embark on a visual journey through the vibrant city. Participants are invited to capture compelling images that epitomise the essence and uniqueness of the city, showcasing its characteristic charm and spirit through the lens of photography.

Main Theme for Kolkata: My Kolkata
Main Theme for New Delhi: My Delhi
Main Theme for Chennai: My Chennai
Eligibility - The contest is open to all members who are 16 years and over.
Submission: Members are to submit their entry between 12 and 19 August (both days inclusive). Only 1 entry can be submitted per membership. While submitting the photograph, members must enclose the submission form that will be sent to them after they register for the competition.
Evaluation – Entries will be judged on creativity, technique, and description of the photograph.
Important dates:
- Last date to register for the competition is 11 August.
- 12 August - registered participants will receive an email with a submission form. The submission form must be submitted with their choice of photograph within the stipulated deadline.
- Submission Dates: 14 – 19 August 2023
- Winner announcement – 25th August. All entries will be displayed at the library. By participating in this event, members give consent for their photograph to be displayed in the library and be used for any marketing or social media activity. The winner’s entry will be showcased in the library newsletter the following month.
Terms and conditions of the competition:
- The photograph must be in its original state and cannot be altered in any way, including but not limited to removing, adding, reversing, or distorting subjects within the frame or adding filters.
- The contest is open for hard copy submissions only. No online submissions will be entertained.
- The photograph submitted by the participant shall be devoid of any copyrighted images.
- Entries will be judged by British Council. All decisions are final. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to stated contest rules.
- Submissions will not be accepted once the deadline lapses.
- The prize must be collected by the winner and is nontransferable.
- The winner will be contacted via the email address provided during entry. If no response is received after 3 business days, a new winner will be selected and the previous winner will forfeit all rights to the prize.
Submission guidelines:
- Only hard copy photograph will be accepted.
- Photographs should be of size 4X6 inches or 5X7 inches
- The photograph can be in color(s), monochromatic, or black/white
- The photograph to be submitted must be accompanied by the submission form which will be given after the closing date for registration via email. Entries without the submission form will be disqualified.
