Dr Santosh Mahapatra will introduce the concepts of disability and inclusiveness in the English language classroom, focussing on what a teacher can identify students with special needs. Thw ebinar will also higlight how mainstream educational institutions can create an inclusive space for teachers with disabilites.
Delivered as a two-part series, the first webinar aims to introduce the participants to the concepts of disability and inclusiveness in the English language classroom. The lead presenter, Dr Santosh Mahapatra, will start by defining ‘disability’ and ‘special needs’. Then he will discuss various forms of disability. Later, he will highlight what a teacher can do to identify students with special needs. Finally, he will conclude with how mainstream educational institutions can create an inclusive space for teachers with disabilities. In addition, a few teachers who were part of a British Council study on teachers with disabilities may join to share their experiences with the participants. The participants will be required to share their experiences in breakout rooms, participate in quizzes and respond to polls. They will have time to ask questions and interact with Santosh.

About the speaker
Santosh works in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus. He teaches courses on academic English and critical pedagogy and supervises PhD students. His research interests are teacher development, technology integration and language policy. He has published in international journals such as RELC Journal, International Journal of Inclusive Education, Teaching in Higher Education, TESOL Journal, Asia-Pacific Education Researcher, etc.
