From creation myths and folktales to fairy tales, traditional stories may be old, but if told with passion, flair, and skill, they can shake up our understanding of the contemporary world with their metaphors, meaning and questions.
Emily's passion for storytelling is infectious. Participants will enjoy meeting their own inner storyteller and be inspired to try out their new skills! In this introductory workshop, Emily shares some of the most fundamental principles of contemporary oral storytelling.
Through stories, discussion and exercises you will explore:
- taking a story off the page and into the realm of the spoken word
- the process of visualisation
- connection with the listener
- voice, gesture and expression.
About Emily: Emily Hennessey is a dynamic workshop leader and performance storyteller, often found wielding a stick and stamping her feet as she shares epics, myths, wondertales and folktales from across the world. She came to storytelling while studying Drama & Theatre Studies at the University of Kent where she met storyteller Dr Vayu Naidu with whom she went on to complete a storytelling apprenticeship. Emily has performed at international festivals and venues including the British Museum, Shakespeare’s Globe, the Viking Ship Museum in Denmark, Nordic House in Iceland and Kathakar Storytelling Festival in India.
