We are delighted to offer an opportunity for English teachers in India to apply for fully funded scholarships to study for an online master's level qualification with University of Portsmouth in the UK. These scholarships are open to individuals working in or with the government schools’ sector, who have not previously received a scholarship to study at a UK university.

The scholarship
We are committed to providing opportunities for English language teachers to access world-leading continuing professional development opportunities and reach their fullest potential. To support this in 2025-26 we are offering seven fully-funded scholarships for English Teachers and/or Teacher Educators from India to complete MA Applied Linguistics and TESOL (online) from the University of Portsmouth.
This is a great opportunity for teachers who are unable to spend a year in the UK doing a face-to-face course. The option of studying for the online MA with the University of Portsmouth includes a two-week fully funded residential visit to the University of Portsmouth as part of the programme.
Successful scholars will form a network and benefit from ongoing engagement with the British Council and each other to support the teaching and learning of young people in India, during and after completing the MA programme.
The scholarship will cover the following:
- One successful IELTS exam costs
- Tuition fees
- Stipend for living expenses while in the UK
- Flights and connecting travel to the UK
- Visa costs and insurance
