British Council is pleased to invite you to a book reading session by renowned poet-diplomat Mr. Abhay K. who currently serves as the Deputy Director General of Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi. Abhay has penned the Earth Anthem which has received worldwide recognition with UNESCO stating that "We find that the idea of having an Earth Anthem is a creative and inspiring thought which would contribute to bringing the world together." The Anthem has been translated into over 150 languages and was played at the United Nations to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Earth Day.
He served as India's 21st Ambassador to Madagascar and Comoros from 2019-2022. He has also served in different diplomatic capacities earlier in Russia, Nepal and Brazil. His published collections of poetry include Stray Poems, Monsoon, The Magic of Madagascar, The Alphabets of Latin America, The Prophecy of Brasilia, The Eight-Eyed Lord of Kathmandu, The Seduction of Delhi among others. His edited books are CAPITALS, 100 Great Indian Poems, 100 More Great Indian Poems, New Brazilian Poems, The Bloomsbury Anthology of Great Indian Poems, The Bloomsbury Book of Great Indian Love Poems, The Book of Bihari Literature among others.
The event will witness the author reading from his book ‘The Six Seasons’ which is an English translation of Kalidasa's masterpiece Ritusamhara. The book helps us connect to Kalidasa's rich poetry in simple yet compelling words thereby evoking the smell and sensations of each season which we often overlook in the mayhem of this technologically driven world.
