British Council works towards strengthening collaboration between Higher Education institutions in UK and India for enhanced research and innovation to meet global challenges and provide young people with access to high quality international education. Through our programmes, we support institutional partnerships that develop skills and knowledge, seeking solutions to critical global challenges through high quality research, teaching and learning.

Over the years we have delivered programmes such as UK India Education Research Initiative, Newton Bhabha Fund, Going Global Partnerships and Going Global Conference. We led the India-UK taskforce on Mutual Recognition of Qualifications, coordinated UK government's response to the Indian Higher Education policy and supported the implementation of the National Education Policy through our initiatives. In the last two years, we have given about 2 million GBP of grant towards seed funding of teaching-learning partnerships for setting up of TNE arrangements in response to the new foreign collaboration regulations of the Government of India.

We recently hosted the India-UK higher education conference: Strengthening India-UK partnerships in education, research and innovation in New Delhi from 18- 19 September 2023.
