What Drives the Commute? Linking Travel Times to Mode Choices

Urban sprawl, rising travel demand, and inadequate transport drive congestion in Indian cities. Supporting public transit and active mobility (UN SDG #11.2) enhances access and efficiency. Understanding the link between trip chaining, mode choice, and travel time investment can reveal behavioral shifts toward sustainable travel.

Analyzing travel decisions of public and private mode users reveals evolving travel patterns as transportation landscape changes and suggest strategies to promote sustainable travel modes. Increasing travel time budgets and expenditures lead to changes in origin, destination, and departure times over time.
