Wales and British Council at Hornbill Festival 2024
From Tuesday 26 November – Wednesday 4 December 2024, British Council will be hosting Welsh artists Mari Mathias as part of the Wales in India programme. Mari Mathias collaborating with Folk musician Seyievinuo Chuzho from Nagaland will perform The Hornbill Festival in Nagaland on Sunday and Monday 1 and 2 December. Welsh artists Gareth Bonello will perform with Benedict Hynniewta from Shillong on Sunday 8 Dec 2024 at The Hornbill Festival in Nagaland The dates for the Hornbill Festival, Kisama Heritage Village, Nagaland are 1 – 10 December 2024.
The 10-day festival in December, nicknamed the “Festival of Festivals”, is celebrating its 25th year and attracts visitors from all over the world. It is India’s largest celebration of tribal heritage with visitors immersed in the rich traditions, music, and folklore of the region.
This year, Wales and British Council has been made a designated partner of the Hornbill festival marking the end of Wales in India 2024, a year-long series of celebrations and events to strengthen ties between the two countries.
Mari Mathias will perform in the Welsh language, bringing her own contemporary approach to traditional folk melodies. She will be performing two solo sets and collaborating with as well as singing alongside Naga Folk musician Seyievinuo Chuzho, writing a Welsh verse to one of her songs as part of the performance.
Gareth Bonello performs under the moniker of The Gentle Good and is known for his enchanting melodies and intricate acoustic guitar arrangements. Gareth is returning to Hornbill after performing in 2013.
